Below are the steps to migrate UnityIS from server to server if using MS Access databases.

A. Download the following files: Download the upgrade file of UnityIS to upgrade the existing UnityIS Server PC to the latest build. Download the complete installation file of UnityIS to install on the new UnityIS Server PC.

B. To migrate UnityIS from the current server PC to the new Server PC, complete the following: On the current UnityIS Server PC:

  1. Close UnityIS on the Server and client workstations.
  2. Create a copy of the UnityIS installation folder. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS" ) from the UnityIS Server and paste on desktop. Rename to "data<todaysdate>"
  3. Run the UnityIS_Upgrade file.
  4. Start UnityIS to verify a successful install has occurred. Write down the current UnityIS Serial Number. (Click on the ‘Help' module and select ‘About')
  5. Close UnityIS.
  6. Copy the UnityIS Data folder (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Data") and paste into a USB Stick or network folder that will be accessible from the new UnityIS Server PC.

On the new UnityIS Server PC:

  1. Log in with Windows Account that has local admin rights.
  2. Turn off Windows Firewall and Anti-virus.
  3. Run the UnityIS_Full_Install.exe file on this PC (follow instructions on the link below, start in step 3).
  4. Email with the Serial/Dongle Number from the old and new servers to get your activation codes
  5. Copy the Maintenance File that will be sent to you into the "Data" folder. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Data")
  6. Start UnityIS to verify a successful install and then close UnityIS.
  7. Open the UnityIS installation folder. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS" ) and rename the existing "Data" folder to "Data1"
  8. Copy the "Data" folder from the previous server (should be in USB Stick or network folder) and paste into the UnityIS installation folder. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS")
  9. Copy the Maintenance File to the new "Data" folder. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Data")
  10. Open the "Configurations.exe" application. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Configuration.exe")
  11. Start UnityIS.
  12. Navigate to the "Hardware Module".
  13. Unlock the Module.
  14. Click on a driver to view the driver properties.
  • In the  "Computer_ Name" field, remove the old computer name and type in the new computer name. (Do this for all drivers)
  • Clear the old "Service UserName" and "Service Password" fields (if used, if blank, leave as is) and enter the new Windows credentials. (Note: Do this for all drivers)

15. Close UnityIS.

16. Open the "Configurations.exe" application as an administrator (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Configuration.exe") and close it, no changes need to be made.

17. Start UnityIS and all controllers should come online and events will start displaying in event manager.

Note: If using AXIS Controllers, complete the following in addition to the above: Copy the ‘axUnityIS' configuration file from the previous UnityIS Server to the new UnityIS server. This file has the last date\time the AXIS controllers communicated with UnityIS. When the controllers connect to the new UnityIS Server, they will look at this file and only send events after the date\time on the file. Failure to copy this file will result in duplicate events because the A1001 controller will send ALL stored events in the panel, including those already in the UnityIS database. To copy the file please do the following:

  1. Stop UnityIS on the current Server (after running the upgrade file).
  2. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the UnityIS ‘Drivers' folder (Typically: ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Drivers')
  3. Find & copy the ‘axUnityIS' file and paste it into the new UnityIS Servers ‘Drivers' folder.

C. To Connect UnityIS clients to the New UnityIS Server: On the New Server:

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the UnityIS ‘Data' folder (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Data").
  2. Open the ‘Properties' and share the folder. You can share with ‘Everyone' or specific Windows users that will be using UnityIS and give them Read/Write permission.

From the UnityIS Clients (do this on every client PC):

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the UnityIS Servers ‘Data' folder. (Typically: ‘\\< ComputerIP\Name>\Data')
  2. If you prompted for Credentials, enter the Windows log in for the UnityIS Server PC and select the box that says "remember credentials".
  3. Open the "Configurations.exe" application. (Typically: "C:\Program Files (x86)\UnityIS\Configuration.exe")
  4. Change the "RemotePath" to the new UnityIS Server Data folder. (Typically: ‘\\< ComputerIP\Name>\Data' ) and click ‘Save'.
  5. Run (as Admin) the UnityIS upgrade file that was downloaded.
  6. Launch UnityIS.
